Visit to the Doctor

Walking out of our doctor's office this morning felt so different from when we were headed in. The appointment started like the rest with Barbara on the scale, then she sat down with the blood pressure cuff wrapped around her arm. 152 pounds, 100/70. And Dr. Thorpe told us what we already know, the rest of Barbara's stats that really haven't changed much from last week. But though it hasn't changed, the fact remains that Barbara's body is in every way ready to begin labor whenever it wants to. Dr. Thorpe explains that labor would come smoothly on the heels of the water breaking on its own or with help from the doctor. The "any moment" style of expecting is agonizing because I want to let it happen when it happens, but that means constantly moving it out of the front of my mind to let myself be distracted by the rest of life. I'm not good at ignoring it. And since I've never been though this before, I still don't really believe that it will actually happen.

All of you who have been there has the deepest empathy for the feelings of those past their due date. I have a new appreciation for the plight of the overdue parents. And I am just the guy - I am convinced that every woman really can turn into Wonderwoman going through this process. On top of that, we're only in the first day past our due date, novices to this waiting game.

I am the big whining baby waiting for the real baby with no idea what lies in store. It's different walking out, feeling more relaxed and more excited at the same time.

We love that you are supporting us and it is amazing to know that your thoughts and prayers are coming our way - what a gift to be supported! We need it and want you to know that we feel it from you. We will keep you updated on the blog - please understand that if we don't return calls, it is because we are resting and enjoying this time together.

Much love from Nathan, Barbara and the little girl who is always making her way closer to meeting her family and community.

I, too, am checking the blog not only daily, but twice daily. I completely understand the post due date anxiety. Just remember, every baby comes out eventually. You'll be grateful of this time when baby is about 5 days old and you haven't slept a wink. Best of luck - I can't wait!!!!!!!
