To Nathan

Nathan spent his first Father's Day working dilligently on his progress reports for school while we were on our vacation. Nathan is a hard worker and has incredible dedication and high expectations of himself in everything he does. It's not a shock that he has the same attributes when it comes to being a dad.

I have been with Nathan for ten years and prior to having Sanne I would have told you that I knew him inside and out. But there is another part of Nathan that has grown in the past months since Sanne was welcomed into the world. I have seen his heart stretched with such incredible love and pride for her. He is a gentle, funny, doting, patient and creative dad. He always has a song for her, a kiss for her, a praise for her.

As we have become parents, our marriage has changed, evolved, been stretched. And Nathan is such a partner with parenting. I never feel like he is ungrateful for my work with Sanne during the day. Even before she was born he was at almost every doctor's appointment, sat in the breastfeeding class with me, lay behind me and held my back up as I pushed Sanne out of my body. Nathan was a father before Sanne was born through his amazing and unrelenting support as a husband. He is putting her to sleep as we speak. Talking to her about her butterfly above her changing table, reading her books, rocking her to sleep. There is nothing more attractive to me then seeing my husband care for our baby in such a honest and natural way.

What a joy to watch my daughter with such a wonderful man as her dad.

Wha' happen'?! I go away for 10 days and dutifully check your blog upon returning to the old city and find that your Sanne is about twice as big as she was earlier this month! Your idyllic trip up north and Father's Day celebrations look like perfection. A week away together is priceless. Can't wait to reunite up north in two weeks! Love love, Auntie B.
