Barbara's belly might be a shiatsu massage machine

Today (Monday the 11th, my 1st day of school as a 4th grade teacher) I got to talk with Barbara after kids had left about her appointment at the doctor's this morning. When it came time to apply the goo and the Fisher Price - looking heartbeat "listener/microphone" thing, the doctor had a hard time finding the heartbeat because "the baby was moving around so much."

I know because last Friday I felt it! Barbara was lying on her back on the couch and felt some movement, so I came over and rested my hand on her belly. After a few minutes, we both jumped and asked, "Did you feel it?" Very, very cool. I compare it to something hard (like a solid rotating ball from one of those shiatsu massage chairs) pushing and stretching against a soft membrane, although the movement isn't mechanical and deliberate - more random and life-like! Just nice to know there's a busy little person growing in there. I told Barbara she's a good home.

School was great, too!

Happy "first day is over" to you, Natey! Been thinking of you and all the first day excitement and woes - I feel it in the air around here at the UofM...all the students rushing about, crisp new binders in hand...and seeing little kids happily anticipating the arrival of the school bus. I can only imagine your 4th graders can't wait to get back into your classroom every morning. You are gifted - I hope you are enjoying them too!

And I can't forget to acknowledge how thrilled I am that you and B are feeling that baby so strongly inside and out now! It's a sensation like no other - so miraculous and alive. It makes you want to laugh and weep at the same time. Joy and gratitude and thrill. Love you three. B
