In Vitro Fertilization

Got the call today from the clinic with our new instructions. Here's the schedule so you know when and how to pray:

Wednesday
6p.m. lupron shot
9p.m. hcg shot

Thursday
no shots, no appointments . . first day without meds in months : )

Friday
6:30 register at Rush Hospital
8 a.m. they will put me under extract all of the 20 or so eggs that are mature. During this time Nathan will give his sample as well.
After the procedure they will let us know how many eggs they were able to retrieve.

Weekend
I will need to be re-la-la-laxin' at home on bed rest. I think I'll be able to convince Nathan that I need dumb girl movies, chocolate and a little bell to receive help at any time. Or we'll work on our garden . . we'll see.

We'll get updates on our embryos. They will inject one sperm into each egg to fertilize.

Wednesday
We will go back in to the hospital for a procedure where they will put the embryos (two of them) back into my uterus. The other embryos that are viable will be frozen for later usage.

For the next two weeks I will be taking progesterone with oil shots so that the uterus is spongey and ready for an embryo to attach. We will find out roughly two weeks later if we are pregnant. This time is really trying for us emotionally and for me physically. While you may think that the first two weeks full of treatment are the hardest, it's when you just sit and wait, feel sick and replay over and over again in your mind if you are in fact pregnant.
