Jesus Loves Me This I Know

On the 21st of July we gathered with many friends and family at our cabin on Stormy Lake to baptize Sanne Grace. It was a perfect day, low 80's, sunny, slight breeze.
Nathan's dad performed the ceremony and each of our family members participated . . . including blessings from both of Sanne's great grandmas.

As a parent you are faced with so many decisions each day. Is she ready to start solids, should we let her cry for five minutes to see if she can put herself to sleep? But the decision to baptize Sanne is by far one of the biggest decisions we have made on her behalf.

Nathan and I both have a faith in God that was shown to us as children and later created to be our own as we grew into adults. It was so powerful to make a promise for Sanne and to allow God to work through her. We see Sanne's soul when she looks at us sometimes . . . and our love for her is too big for our hearts.

As I watched my father-in-law put blessed water on her head, from the lake I swam in as a child, in a place where I have seen God so many times, I was overcome with a peace, a presence and a hope for Sanne.

It's not easy to know that Sanne will grow up in a world that isn't kind, that is ugly and materialistic, unfair and demanding. But I know that in the calm moments and a place in her heart, that God resides and that is beautiful.

Blessings to you as you celebrate the joy of baptism. Participating in such an awesomely mysterious sacrament with your child is a holy and beautiful thing. May Sanne grow to know her savior, and may her life be filled with blessing.

Yep, that made me cry, reading that. Sometimes people ask why bring a child in to a world like this and you explain why so well.
