G Diapers

On Friday as I was making the bed I noticed a little dried up item on the bed. Having two cats, it really can be anything but then the light bulb went off . . . it was Sanne's cord. I ran into the bedroom and woke her up from her nap to tell her the good news (and to check her belly button). And there is was . . . a little belly button. This is very exciting because it means she can have a real bath AND can start wearing her G Diapers.

Before Sanne was born Nathan and I did a lot of research regarding diapers. It's a hot topic among parents. We wanted to do something that felt environmentally responsible but also something that could be flexible for us. We had ran across an article last summer on G Diapers and started to do some research.

Basically you purchase 5-6 cloth diapers that have waterproof liners and flushable inserts. When the diaper is dirty you just flush the insert.

Here's some info from the website: www.gdiapers.com

"gDiapers are designed to keep your baby dry and comfortable and the earth a little happier.
gDiapers have no elemental chlorine, perfumes, smell, garbage or guilt.

Sure, the whole idea of flushing takes some getting used to. But then so did recycling and you probably don't even remember life before you started separating your paper from your glass.

500 years is a long time...It takes up to 500 years for a disposable to biodegrade in a landfill. Just in time for your great, great, great, great, grandchild's birth. Not a very nice baby gift."

We'll keep you posted on how these work for us and Sanne. So far so good!

OMG, what a cutie. I love that little babies look like old men. And I say that affectionately, both my girls did too.

AJ-

Newborns are totally old men. Sanne gets these forhead wrinkles that scream 80 year old with tennish balls on his walker!

(And by the way, yes that was the squirrel outfit from old navy) : )
