35W

Nathan and I sat in front of the computer for an hour last night, watching Kare 11 news, a local Mpls station. I almost felt addicted to getting information, as if it would help make sense of the bridge collapse.

We made calls to friends and family in the Twin Cities. All were safe.
Nathan and I drove across that bridge countless times during the time we lived in Minnesota, our exit to home only one away from the bridge. There is something so strange watching this in Chicago . . . missing people in Minneapolis, trying to make sense of it all.

I can't imagine what the families are feeling waiting for news of missing loved ones. Or what it must be like to be a recovery worker, swimming in the water looking for bodies of victims.

Whenever something tragic happens, I am always pleased to see that the immediate reaction of so many is to help. It renews my faith in the community. We are so quick to blame. The media is struggling for answers to something that might just be a fluke, unfair, devestating.

Right now in my personal life I am dealing with several people are close to me, being very sick. And I too am looking for answers, justifications. But I keep finding myself without these answers. I am left with it being a part of life. This is a challenge to my faith at a time when faith is necessary.

Please pray for the victims today and rejoice in the safety of your loved ones.

this is so similar to how i felt on and after september 11, as someone who lived in nyc for 8 years (and knew several involved in that day). thank you for pointing our hearts and minds in a sensitive and compassionate direction toward those affected by this day - directly, or from afar. i am joining my prayers with your own. thanks again for this meaningful post.

FYI, we too are safe. We are all so concerned and just have to fall back on prayers.
